Hystat was established in Huddersfield in 1976 to service the market in heavy duty Hydraulic Cylinders, Accumulators, Rotary Actuators, Rotary Distributors and Pressure Vessels.
Up until 1982, manufacture was carried out on a subcontract basis until the company moved to its current site at Spa Fields Industrial Estate, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield. The original site housed only one building but the site was large enough to accommodate the company’s growth and expansion over the following years. The premises today have been extended three times and are over ten times larger than the original.
In 1986 the company purchased the intellectual property and machinery of Spenborough Engineering Ltd, a company in a similar field. Spenborough Engineering were a long-established manufacturer of Hydraulic Cylinders, supplying many industries, particularly crane manufacturers. The information is still retained by Hystat who can supply spares or replacements for equipment supplied by Spenborough.
In 1992 the drawings and commercial records of Cattermole Hydraulics Ltd, a hydraulics company including Weston Hydraulics, was purchased. Cattermole Hydraulics and Weston Hydraulics were very well recognised manufacturers of Hydraulic Cylinders, supplying to the steel and heavy industries. Hystat acquired the rights for all drawings, technical knowledge, sales records and right to use the name. Hystat are therefore able to supply spares, replacements, or technical information for the Cattermole range of equipment.
In 2004 Hystat acquired a local subcontract company, Bank Bottom Engineering Services. This engineering company had been operating from its site in Honley since 1952. It consisted of a modern machine shop with state-of-the-art machinery, including horizontal machining centres, vertical machining centres and multi-axis turning centres.
In 2010 Hystat procured the assets of Titan Manufacturing, a Hydraulic Cylinder manufacturer based in Halifax. The acquisition included all sales records, engineering drawings and technical information relating to products produced by Titan and associated companies.
In 2015 Hystat modernised and expanded the facilities adding additional office and production areas.
During 2020, Cylinder Service Centre in Washington, UK was acquired as a dedicated Hydraulic Cylinder service and maintenance centre.
December 2022, Hystat purchased the intellectual property relating to the manufacturing operation at Cyrus Bradford/Bradford Cylinders. This included all drawings, parts lists, technical records, sales records and trading names.
Hystat continue to supply the goods and services associated with Bradford Cylinders from both factories in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield and Washington, Tyne and Wear.
Today Hystat operates from its purpose-built site in Huddersfield with over 50,000 square feet of production facilities.
