Hystat Systems is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of high-specification, custom-engineered piston accumulators. Since 1976, we have been delivering robust fluid power energy storage solutions engineered to perform reliably in some of the world’s most demanding operating environments.
From our dedicated 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in West Yorkshire, our experienced design engineering team uses advanced 3D modelling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to develop and manufacture bespoke accumulator systems tailored to your exact volume, material, and pressure requirements.
To combat corrosion and premature seal degradation in severe operational environments, we offer an exhaustive selection of metallics and specialised elastomer.
Metallic Construction: Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, Duplex, Super Duplex, 17/4 PH, Inconel, and Hastelloy.
Elastomeric Sealing Options: Nitrile (NBR), Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR), Viton (FPM), Fluorosilicone, Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM), AFLAS, PTFE, Polyurethane, and PEEK.
Compatible Operating Fluids: Mineral Oils, Water Glycol, Skydrol, Brayco Micronic, Transaqua HT, and plain water processing mediums.

Unlike off-the-shelf components, Hystat piston accumulators are built to order, allowing precise control over physical dimension profiles, port configurations, and integration options such as custom piston position indicators (including ultrasonic, magnetic visual flapper, and linear transducers).

Hystat Accumulators are designed and certified to meet strict international safety regulations.
We facilitate third-party witnessing and provide full production, design, and material traceability documentation as standard. Our systems conform to:
Design Standards: EN14359, PD5500, ASME VIII Division 1, EN13445, and AS1210
Safety Approvals: PED 2014/68/EU (CE), ASME U Stamp, DNV, ABS, LRQA, Lloyds Register, BV, NR13, National Board, Canadian CRN, and ATEX 2014/34/EU conformity for hazardous areas.
Our custom piston accumulators perform vital functions across diverse, high-stakes industrial applications, effectively serving as:
Energy Storage & Stand-By Power: Supplementing system flows during peak intermittent demand or acting as emergency back-up energy sources during critical pump failures.
Pulsation Dampening & Shock Absorption: Absorbing high-frequency pressure surges and system shocks generated by fast-acting valves or high-pressure pumps to protect pipe infrastructure.
Thermal Expansion Compensation: Managing volume shifts caused by intense temperature variations within closed-loop hydraulic circuits.
“Our expertise lies in the Bespoke. If a standard catalog item won’t solve your problem, our design team will.”
In-House Design: Full CAD/CAM design capabilities to meet specific mounting, space, or performance constraints.
Material Traceability: All materials are sourced from reputable, certified suppliers with full documentation available.
Maintenance & Repair: Beyond manufacture, we provide a complete strip-down, report, and refurbishment service for all makes of hydraulic equipment. Find out more about Maintenance & Repair here.
Strategic Location: Located in the heart of West Yorkshire’s engineering corridor, providing easy logistical access for UK-wide delivery.
Piston accumulators offer significantly higher volume capacities (up to 2,000+ litres) and can handle extreme pressure ratios and maximum design pressures up to 3,500 bar. Unlike other variants, they do not suffer from sudden, catastrophic bladder rupture and can tolerate extreme operating temperature envelopes ranging from -196°C to +200°C. They also allow for the integration of linear position monitoring systems to track internal piston movement.
Yes. We regularly design and manufacture pressure vessels to comply with strict international marine and offshore codes. We facilitate full third-party witnessing and certification through bodies such as DNV, Lloyds Register, LRQA, ABS, and Bureau Veritas (BV). Units can be manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials like 316 Stainless Steel, Duplex, or Super Duplex, and finished with heavy-duty offshore protective coatings.
To allow clear system monitoring and fault diagnosis, we can equip our custom accumulators with a variety of piston position indicators. These include external magnetic visual flappers, continuous linear transducers, ultrasonic sensors, and proximity switches to flag precise piston locations within the bore without compromising the pressure shell.
Full quality assurance and material traceability are fundamental to our manufacturing process. We provide comprehensive documentation packages as standard, including material test certificates (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2), design calculations, hydrostatic pressure test certificates, and manufacturing data books to satisfy PED 2014/68/EU and ASME regulations.
Yes. Because we build entirely to order, our design engineering team can reverse-engineer or adapt our accumulator profiles, porting layout, and mounting configurations to exactly replicate the physical footprint of an obsolete or competitor unit. This ensures a seamless drop-in replacement on your existing hydraulic skid without the need for piping modifications.
